Instant Pot Honey Sesame Chicken Recipe

What I struggle about the most when preparing packed lunch for my kids is the time it takes to prepare these meals. My kids leave the house very early in the morning so if I want to serve something healthy (not fried or processed), I have to wake up at 4 in the morning to make that possible.

But that isn’t the case now. With my Instant Pot, I can make delicious packed lunch in just a few minutes while preparing my kids for school.

There are a lot of Instant Pot recipes around the internet, but one of my kids’ favorites is Instant Pot Honey Sesame Chicken. You guys, this is so easy to make. It won’t take you over 20 minutes to prepare! *WINNER*

Moreover, the kids are crazy about it. They love the tasty smell of sesame and the touch of sweetness of honey in the dish. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can add some pepper flakes for some additional spice!

Instant Pot Honey Sesame Chicken

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper for seasoning
  • Vegetable oil or canola oil
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (low sodium, if available)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp cold water
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup honey

Instructions

STEP 1: Season your chicken with salt and pepper. Add vegetable oil or canola oil into the Instant Pot. Saute the onions and garlic. Once done, add the chicken into the pot. Saute for three more minutes until the chicken is brown-ish and the onions softened.

STEP 2: Add soy sauce and ketchup then stir. Make sure you cover the chicken breasts with the sauce! Then, lock the lid in place and set your Instant Pot to Pressure Cooker (High Pressure) for 3 minutes.

STEP 3: Prepare the slurry while your chicken cooks. Just combine cornstarch and water in a bowl then mix until smooth.

STEP 4: When the cook time ends, do a quick release. Once the valve drops, open the lid and add sesame oil and honey into the pot. Mix, mix, mix then add the slurry you prepared to thicken the sauce.

You’re done! Serve your Honey Sesame Chicken with steamed rich and a serving of vegetables on the side. We like eating it with steamed broccoli. 😉
