Rainy Day Activities for Families

Is the gloomy weather getting you down? Donโ€™t let the rainy season stop you and your familyย from having fun! Here are some rainy day activitiesย you can do with your family even when the rain is pouringย outsideโ€ฆ

#1 Drop your gadgets and take out those board games

When I was younger, I remember spending hours playing Game of the Generals with my dad onย days we canโ€™t go out. Not only did it teach me a lot about strategic thinking, but it also providedย an opportunity for my dad and I to bond while my mom cooks the usual rainy day favorites likeย champorado.

Now that I have kids of my own, I make it a point to grab every chance I get to bond with them.ย My children are still very young (Kelly is 4, Caleb is 2), but weโ€™ve already introduced them toย board games. It can get chaotic with a toddler constantly running over the board, but nothingย beats all the laugh-worthy moments with the whole family.

#2 Try out some arts and crafts

toddler artMy daughter loves anything artsy. She got it from her dad who is quite creative as well. This isย why during rainy days, when board games no longer work in keeping my little onesย preoccupied, I take out their art kits and we do arts and crafts activities together. I donโ€™t mindย letting the kids get messyโ€”that makes arts and crafts even more fun!

#3 Play pretend

the minisWhat better way to enjoy a rainy day than to make use of the gloomy weather to play pretendย pirates lost in a stormy sea, right? I have to be honest, hoisting sails made of bed sheets andย pretending to be adventurers sailing the vast seas in search of treasure is something I reallyย enjoy doing with my kids.

When my husband is around (heโ€™s usually on duty 24/7 during the rainy season since thatโ€™s whenย theyโ€™re on red alert), he gets to play the scary sea monsterโ€ฆor the merman needing to beย rescued. It really depends on the kidsโ€™ mood. ๐Ÿ˜€

#4 Enjoy a game of laser tag

Now, if you have older kids, one activity Iโ€™m sure they will enjoy is a game of laser tag. Beforeย we had kids of our own, my husband and I used to take our nieces to Market! Market! for aย game of laser tag. Our nieces were aged 7 to 10 back then and they really enjoyed our games.

So if itโ€™s raining outside and the kids canโ€™t go out to play, suit up and head over to LazerXtremeย for a game or two.

#5 Play in the rain!

out and aboutChildhood is not complete if you never got to play in the rain. I did it when I was younger, myย husband experienced it too, and we decided to let our kids enjoy the rain as well. I was hesitantย at first because I was scared my kids might get sick, but I soon learned that as long as we takeย care of the kidsโ€™ health, a couple of minutes under the rain wonโ€™t hurt.

To make sure my kids are always healthy (so we can all play in the rain!), I make sure they eatย healthy meals and get enough rest. I also help boost their immune system by letting them takeย Vitamin C and Zinc.

My 3.5 year old son loves rain. He’s fascinated with it. When he grow up (just a little), we will let him play in the rain. Playing board games is also fun. By the way, I already registered at Hey Mom. It’s a nice and helpful website. ๐Ÿ™‚

Love this Kim! We’ve actually been using gadgets less and less now that we have rotational brownouts again. How I hope it rains here!

  8. On rainy days, my little family likes to cuddle in bed together, which is actually more of like a royal rumble; watch movies and series, and eat a lot ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a 2-year old toddler with special needs so as part of his development, we give him more interactive toys than gadgets. He cannot understand board games yet but i am thinking of starting him off with flash cards. He has not played in the rain yet but maybe when he grows a little bit older, I will allow him

My eldest is 5 years old and he likes painting, coloring and sketching. I recently joined the adult coloring bandwagon so during rainy days (and all other days), my eldest and I take out our coloring supplies and paint/color the rains away. Some days we bring out his Snakes and Ladders. I’d love to play in the rain, too!

My kids like painting, coloring, or doing anything artsy, which we love to do on rainy days. But you know what, we don’t have any board games at home. Geez why didn’t I even think of getting one? Haha probably because I thought they’re too young to understand those games. Oh I’m so wrong then, since they are about the same age as your kids. Hehe

They won’t participate fully in the game, but they’ll play it. Try buying games like Guess Who. My kids love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. I’m also looking forward to play under the rain with my son someday. Also during my childhood we always play Snake and Ladders, will definitely teach my son on how to play this too.

My kids haven’t played in the rain yet. I wish they could also experience it! I think it should be at a time they are very healthy and they must wear slippers that are waterproof and not slippery.
