It’s been a while since I last wrote a ‘My Kid Just Said’ post. I actually have a whole library of words and phrases that The Princess said in the past weeks, I just couldn’t find the time to write extensively about them. But since the toddler is busy playing with a box and The Little Man is asleep, this is my chance to blog about one of the words that my 2-year old said that surprised me.

A few weeks ago, The Princess and I were watching tv when a zebra-like animal was flashed. I had no idea what it was because it has zebra-like stripes on its legs, but was brown to black all over.
Mommy, look! Okapi!
SO. According to my 2-year old companion, that zebra look-alike is an Okapi. I turned to my handy dandy phone and searched for it. I didn’t even know how it’s spelled so it took me a while. Haha!
Well, ladies and gents, she was right. The animal that was flashed on the tv was an Okapi. It has striped markings similar to zebras, but it is actually more closely related to giraffes. It is native to the Ituri Rainforest in Congo.
I later on found out that the Okapi was introduced in one of Dora The Explorer / Go Diego go episodes, which is why The Princess knows what it is. It’s amazing that she retained that information because with a strange name, I would have easily forgotten about it. LOL.
