How A Clean And Organized Home Can Boost Your Productivity (And Your Mood!)

I’ve been working from home (and anywhere, actually, but mostly from home) even before the lockdown era. What I learned in those 10+ years of spending most of my time at home is that the physical space can affect what goes on in the mind.

It is evident especially on busy days at work. There is a sense of overwhelm when I look at a long list of things I need to do, and when I peek beyond my laptop, there are mountains upon mountains of clutter and misplaced things all over the house.

The panic sets in. It starts to feel like there won’t be enough time in the day to get everything done.

But it’s different when my physical space is clean and organized. This is why we’ve been practicing minimalism because less is really more and there’s something about a clean and organized home that makes daily life feel easier.

We started with our minds and our relationships wherein we intentionally let go of tasks and people who only add ‘clutter’ and ‘unnecessary noise’ to our lives.

After we did the inner work, we started changing our physical space as well. You’ll notice in our photos that our house is mostly white with just a few pops of color. We chose to go with that design because we don’t want the house to feel busy. We want it to feel relaxed so it provides a safe and calm space for us when we do our ‘busy work’ in the business.

We are consistent throughout the house. Wherever you look, it’s all white with tiny pops of color. All areas in our house have a purpose, too. It can’t just be there just to be there, if you know what I mean. That being said, we designed our house making sure that all the spaces are utilized. This is why I can literally work from any spot in our house! Really, pick a spot, any spot, and you’ll be able to comfortably work, study, read, listen to music, or breastfeed there.

Because we want every space to have a purpose, we’re also intentional about the items we purchase for the house. We don’t just buy furniture because they look nice. We buy furniture because we know it’ll serve a purpose in the house.

For instance, one of the steps we took to create a clean and organized home is to buy storage that look nice with our home’s aesthetic, but will also last a long time.

This simple 4-layer Steel Storage Rack from Cutting Edge Storage Solutions blends beautifully in our home as it serves as a home for our phone, router, and indoor plants. It’s spacious enough to house our documents (at the bottom layer) and sturdy enough to carry our living Christmas Tree.

I originally intended this to go in the kitchen to house our appliances, but since my husband started a DIY project for the kitchen, this steel rack found its place in the living room.

Another storage I got from Cutting Edge Storage Solutions is the Dandy Garment Rack. We’ve been looking for the perfect closet or rack for our clothes, but I haven’t been able to find one to my liking until I saw this one.

I love how it has a lot of storage space and that it’s super sturdy. My husband is particular about the sturdiness of furniture and he said this one is really good.

I should note that the Japanese-style plain clothes hangers I got from Shopee go perfectly well with this rack, don’t they? I love the whole look we did here!

If you’re looking for more storage solutions, Cutting Edge Storage Solutions has a variety of products you can choose from. If I’m not mistaken, these storage solutions come in other colors too. You can find them on Lazada and Shopee.

Since shifting to this minimalist lifestyle, we noticed that we felt more relaxed at home and less likely to feel overwhelmed. And when we do feel overwhelmed, it’s because we had a slight slip in our organization game. So, we just clean up and organize again and we feel so much better in no time!

What are you waiting for? Start decluttering and start working on creating a more organized home. Your mental health will thank you for it.

An important tip when it comes to buying storage solutions for your home is to declutter first before you organize. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself buying storage and it’ll only pile up and turn into clutter, which is something you don’t want in your life!
