Mama Blues: A Mini Is Starting School Soon!

Starting School

If you’re following me on Instagram (follow me here!), then you know that I recently found out that our little girl can start going to school already. I was very excited at first because I (and the rest of the ladies of my family who are also “Old Girls” – this is what the graduates of Assumption are called) have always looked forward to the time when the new generation of girls in our family will also wear the plaid skirt.

Seeing that the deadline of application is already on April, The Princess’ Tita P already got her a copy of the list of requirements from the Admissions Office. Daddy A prepared the application form while I took care of the legal documents needed for the application. Many thanks to NSO Helpline for being so prompt! The Princess’ birth certificate and our marriage certificate arrived just two days after I placed my order. The representative I talked to is super nice as well so I really had a pleasant experience with them. I will definitely use their services in the future. 🙂 If you’re wondering, it costs PHP350 per document.

Starting school
There will be lots of changes this year. The Princess is applying for Junior Nursery while Daddy A is going to try ASoG for his masteral.

Since everyone is so excited about her going to school, The Princess began to get excited as well. Whenever asked where she will be going to school, she’d proudly say, “Assumption!” We have yet to go through processing, but she sounds so sure already! Haha.

Recently though, my excitement shifted to nostalgia and a bit of anxiety. The minis are extremely close with each other and with The Princess starting school soon, it means that she won’t be spending full days with The Little Man and I. What made me feel even more sad was when she asked me if her brother can go to school with her so they can still be together. I told her that her brother can’t go to class with her, but that we will be waiting for her outside when they’re done. She hugged her brother after that, then said, “Wait for me, ok?” Gosh- I am getting teary-eyed just writing about that very ma-drama moment with the kids yesterday! Sigh!

I know, I know. It’s just Junior Nursery and she will only be away for a few hours a day. I guess what’s bothering me so much is the fact that she will eventually gain friends and her world will no longer be just about Mommy, Daddy and her brother. Soon, I will be seeing her play pretend princesses with other girls when it used to be Mommy as Queen Elsa and her as Princess Anna (with special participation of the Little Man as Olaf and Daddy A as either Kristoff, Hans or Sven haha!). I just realized that I often complain about the minis being so clingy while here I am, being clingy myself… but that’s my baby girl we’re talking about! 🙁

Ok- enough drama! 😀 Like I said, The Princess still needs to go through processing and assessment. If she passes her readiness test, then we shall send her to school with a bit of sadness but lots of excitement and joy. I’m sure she’d enjoy school, just like how she enjoyed her Gymboree classes so much.

Do you have a child who’s starting school this year too? How do you feel about it?

I remember the time when my girl was just starting school too( She is in 1st Grade now) and the feelings of excitement and the anxiety that goes with it. Mangiyak-ngiyak ako during her first day. Yeah, time flies and we have to enjoy every moment. 🙂

I think I’m going to be teary-eyed on my daughter’s first day too. Haha! I’m enjoying every moment with her. Pag nagsimula na kasi magschool, tuloy-tuloy na.

  3. Love your tips!! thanks for sharing! Am not pregnant but these tips will come in handy too thanks

  4. Ako naman nostalgic kasi my daughter is no longer a baby mag 7 na this year. I remember when she first started going to Assumption too.. She doesn’t know how to speak English and now 2 years later ayaw na magsalita nang Tagalog..

Yan din palagi namin naririnig na comment after malaman ng ibang tao na mag-aaral na si Kelly: “Ay, may school girl na pala kayo. Tumatanda na ah!” Haha. I’m most worried about the interview bilang masungit itong anak ko. :)) Sana nga makapasa.

Ooh, Francine will be starting school this year too! Super mixed emotions because of course, this is a HUGE first for all of us, right? She had her entrance interview last December and I was almost scared that she won’t talk to the interviewer or some other boo-boo. But to my relief she was well-behaved and didn’t hesitate going alone with the interviewer (parents not allowed during the interview). And she passed! I’ve already paid her reservation fee and will be enrolling her next month. OMG. So fast!

I’m worried about the interview! My girl is a bit shy around other people so hopefully she’ll respond to the questions. Congratulations to Francine!

Thanks sis! I’m sure Kelly will do well in her interview. The admission staff are trained to work with kids naman so hopefully hindi ganun ka-intimidating to kids who’ll be interviewed. 😉

Goodluck Kelly! You can do it. 🙂

Totoo na time flies.
