Finally home on St. Valentine’s Day

Good news! We are finally home! We won’t be going on a Valentine’s Day date, though, since we are drained – physically and financially. @.@ We are still in awe/shock that we spent more or less 80k for the Little Man’s 5-day hospital stay. Yes folks. 80k for roseola, aka tigdas hangin! It’s a simple viral infection that eventually goes away after a week; and it usually won’t require hospitalization. This is basically how A looked like while waiting for our bill and after he saw it:

Still very calm and happy
“I’m pretty sure the hospital bill will be way less than the money we prepared.”
Juggling the boredom away
Juggling the boredom away…
Worried
“Where the hell will I get 80 grand?!?!”

Thankfully, we had emergency savings kept in my BPI Save Up account (awesome for saving!) and Arjay’s capital contribution (great for saving too if you are in service!). Our families and a very good friend of ours (the same one who came to the rescue when we went to Resorts World without our wallets, haha!) helped out, too.

At one point, we thought that maybe we should not have let the doctors perform a lumbar puncture on our Little Man (more than half of the bill was due to that and the lab tests done on the samples taken from the spinal tap); that maybe we should have just waited a bit more, thought about it more. Because if we did, then the bill would not have become that big.

There were a lot of could have’s about the money we spent: we could have used it as a down payment for the car we wanted to buy; we could have used it as down payment for the house and lot we’ve been eyeing on; or we could have started a business. But now, we are just happy to be home and grateful that our boy is safe. Money, anyway, can be replaced… our minis are priceless and irreplaceable.

As for our Valentine’s Day celebration, we are celebrating with good laughs and a plate of yummy Chicken Barbecue! #thisisthelife

P.S. Can anyone recommend a good health insurance company? 😀

Hi Kim! I recently had to be hospitalized here in Singapore and the bill made me sicker. But my husband didn’t mind paying for it, kasi sabi nya it’s ok to spend that much if only to make sure that I was ok. We didn’t even think of converting the SGD amount to Pesos, at baka lalo kaming mahilo. Haha.
Hope your Little Man is feeling better!

I remember when we first saw the bill, we were very quiet for a few minutes. But then we realized that it’s ok that we spent that much for our boy. At least we are sure that his seizures were not related to brain infection and other serious conditions. People actually keep teasing us about the money we spent for a simple viral infection. Iniisip na lang namin, it’s not their son that was hospitalized; they don’t know how we felt and why we readily spent that money for his tests and medicines.

My little man is back to normal! I hope you’re much better, too. 🙂

Hi Kim! We should have met up in TMC! haha….We were also thinking about how the money we paid to the hospital could have gone to other expenses or investments. But then again, it didn’t really matter at the time when our son was looking and feeling very sick. We can always work for the money again. What’s important is that our loved ones are ok! Hope you’re all doing well! God bless!

I know! I’m sure we were in the same floor (9th?) haha. Sayang! But yeah, it’s a lot of money, but what’s more important is that our little ones are safe and feeling much better.

Thanks Louise! We’re so happy that the test for brain infection came out negative!

Aww. Very well Kim! Ako man nanghihinayang sa laki ng gastos nyo pero it won’t compare to the peace that you have knowing that your little guy’s very well okay na. 🙂 God bless your family!
